I actually lived my dream as I was a professional opera singer for over thirty years, singing fascinating roles and wearing delightful costumes. As well as working for companies abroad and at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and Glyndebourne, my husband, baritone Christopher Davies and I founded the Apollo Group of London and Apollo Opera in 1965. Apollo Opera continued until 1986 and the Apollo Group concerts until 2003.
We met on our first day at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in Loondon and the first operatic production in which we took part was "Cosi fan Tutte" by Mozart. In 2005 I created a room set for a dolls' house club exhibition and entitled it "The Opera Director". It features a rehearsal of the same opera at Guildhalll. In the corner is an elderly lady pianist who is looking through the score and the six members of the cast, three men, three girls are gathered around the director as he outlines the moves to them. Around the wall are photos of actual productions in which my husband and I have sung.
