Something Special
May 26th, 2009Back in March we posted on the beautiful pavilion pictures we were sent by Dr Bergoglio and this week we were sent some more lovely photos from Mrs Barbara Kendal-Davies. Mrs Kendal-Davies has used the Toll House kit to create her vision. She writes:
“Years ago I read “The Tollhouse” by Georgette Heyer and it stimulated my interest in such buildings. Despite having practical purpose they were often very attractive with their distinctive shape and Regency Gothic features.
For my house, I used an off white gloss paint for the exterior, adding foliage in green and yellow and made an olive green colour by mixing black and ochre acrylic paint for the door. The window and door frames are painted in brilliant white gloss.
I painted the interior with white emulsion but it looked rather bleak so I added floral print wallpaper in both rooms with a parquet floor for the bedroom and old brick paper for the kitchen.
Most of the furniture, accessories and dolls came from The Dolls House Emporium and I am very pleased with the quality of the designs and materials.
Although the male doll’s costume is not early enough in period, it is suitably rural to pass for a turn pike keeper, I think, and his wife’s costume is very apt.
I have dealt with The Dolls House Emporium for well over a decade and think it is the most efficient firm I have ever come across. I live in the Channel Islands and our nearest dolls’ house shop is in Guernsey, so I am grateful to The Dolls House Emporium for enabling me to enjoy my hobby by mail order.”
And it is a real treat for us to see what you have been doing with your kits, so do send your photographs in.
Mrs Kendall-Davies has also sent us images of her opera rehearsal room box.
