Dress the Bride Competition – Barbara Langley’s Entry
June 3rd, 2010A modern classic!
We absolutely loved the antique, but modern look of Barbara Langley’s wedding dress she entered in our ‘Dress the Bride’ competition – definitely a modern classic that we would be happy to wear!
“I love to go to miniature fairs to look for old lace and other items I may be able to use in my future projects. Looking in my boxes and boxes of material when starting this wedding dress, I came across three old lace collars. I played around with the lace, draping them over the doll to see what would happen, and then I started to sew – I didn’t use a pattern at all!
The gem on the front of the dress comes from an old wedding dress from a fair at Newark. I found the buckle on the back of the skirt in one of my boxes of odds and ends! The necklace is made from modern gems which I bought by the metre at a miniature fair in York.
I had nothing in mind for the style of the dress, it just took shape as I sewed! I think you would call it old modern!”
