Dress the Bride Competition – Sarah Taylor’s Entry

June 5th, 2010

A perfectly modern mini!

We received lots of traditional dress designs so this one from Sarah Taylor of Dover, Kent, really stood out for it’s up to the minute, modern design!

“Before I started designing my wedding dress I did a bit of research on the Internet and found some beautiful Julien MacDonald dresses.  I took individual aspects of these dresses and did three practice runs!  I then took my favourite bits from each practice dress to make my final design!

I decided to use silk for the dress and hand-stitched some sequined mesh over the top.  I made the single shoulder strap out of white flowers, saving a few for the understated head dress and the bouquet.  I then added a blast of colour by tying a bright pink satin ribbon around the waist of the dress and securing it.

I believe that no wedding dress is complete without a bouquet, so I used pink and white lilies, together with the white flowers from the dress, and tied them all together with left over material from the pink satin sash.

I thought the perfect location for this wedding is a Scottish Castle, so I took some photos of the bride in front of a beautiful open fire and in the Scottish highlands!”
