Dress the Bride Competition – Shelia Gilbert’s Entry

June 8th, 2010

Such a beautiful, blushing bride!

We really loved Shelia Gilbert’s dress for its versatility!  The idea of a very simple dress, which can be worn after the big day that can be transformed in to a stunning wedding gown – genius!

My bride is one of the dolls from The Dolls House Emporium family and she wanted a very simple dress that she could wear after the wedding.  I started by creating a simple white silk dress with a beaded bodice and a shell embroidered hem.

For the wedding day itself, I added an overskirt of white silk with a matching shell embroidered hem, but this time I added beads and a jewelled design on the back of the skirt.  This skirt is then attached to the main dress with a belt of ribbon and jewels – but it can be detached after the wedding if the bride wishes!

She also wears white jewelled shoes and carries a bouquet of cream roses which I made from tissue paper wound around a cocktail stick and then wired.

Her veil is a triangle of net, which I have gathered a third of the way down and added beads all around the edge. The head dress is two strands of beads on wire, twisted together to make a hoop which sits round her hair. I styled her hair in to a pony tail to add a touch of elegance!

She also has a necklace of matching beads – and a cheeky garter of gathered ribbon!  She’s now ready for her perfect wedding!
