Small beginnings, Great Expectations!
August 26th, 2010Many of you may have already received your brand new 2010/2011 Dolls House Emporium catalogue (very exciting, we know!). Many of you may also have noticed that there is a distinctive Dickensian feel to the catalogue, with a number of our houses and dolls’ receiving a Victorian makeover – and you may be asking why!
Firstly, 2011 marks the 150th anniversary of the publication of Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, one our country’s most popular and well-loved novelists. To help celebrate this key milestone, The Dolls House Emporium decided to spread a little Dickensian magic over its miniatures. Montgomery Hall has been transformed in to the dark, mysterious Satis House, the home of the tragic Miss Havisham who sits in her faded wedding dress since the day she was abandoned at the alter. In another room of the house, Pip and Miss Havishams ward, Estella, play a game of cards. Continuing the Dickens theme, our Stratford Bakery has also been transformed in to The Old Curiosity Shop with its cluttered, intriguing interior, full of trinkets and treasures.
Secondly, we wanted to provide you with a little extra inspiration for your own miniature projects! Hopefully you have already been inspired to create your own little piece of Victorian England and will help to celebrate the 150th anniversary of this fantastic story. We will also soon be featuring a number of ‘How-tos’ so you can create your very own Satis House, Miss Havisham, Pip or Estella – watch this space!
