Don’t be fooled

April 1st, 2011

It’s April 1st so be on the lookout for April Fool jokes appearing in newspapers, on the internet and TV.  People can be terribly gullible and there are some classic examples of past April Fools.

One of the most famous was the Spaghetti Harvest featured on BBC TV in 1957.   They reported that Swiss farmers were enjoying a bumper spaghetti crop and showed farm workers picking spaghetti from trees.

Then there was the left handed burger made of all the same ingredients as a normal one but it rotated 180 degrees for the benefit of left handed customers.  Or how about Whistling Carrots with tapered airholes so that it would whistle when fully cooked.

Another favourite was the announcement to ease congestion on the M25.  Traffic on both carriageways would travel in the same direction – clockwise on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and anti-clockwise on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  And if you’ve ever sat in a traffic jam on the M25, you might think it sounds like a great idea.

Be careful what you read on this website today! If you see that the Dolls House Emporium is branching out into making dogs’ houses especially for miniature breeds – miniature poodles, dachshunds, schnauzers etc – then please don’t believe a word of it.  It’s only an April Fool.
