Matisse House

October 22nd, 2011

When it comes to finding inspiration, where better to go than to one of the 20th century’s greatest painters, Henri Matisse.

That’s what Phoebe Stout thought when it came to creating a dolls’ house as a gift for her niece.

A big fan of Matisse whose reputation today rivals that of Picasso, Phoebe used his paintings to inspire her dolls’ house interiors, copying walls, floors, wallpaper and rugs from the rooms Matisse featured in his own works.

So just think what you could do with a painter like Edward Hopper, who is famous for his paintings of people and rooms.

Or you might prefer to be inspired by a more abstract artist like Mark Rothko – or how about making a miniature version of Tracey Emin’s unmade bed?
