Dolls’ house creation inspired by real cottage

October 27th, 2011

This cosy pink cottage was inspired by a real building in Lincolnshire.

April Claridge-Elstob, from a village near Horncastle, always imagined the real one as suitable for Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.

She almost didn’t enter this year’s Dolls House Emporium Creative Competition, but got the garden pavilion kit through in the nick of time and completed her project within 24 hours to meet the deadline!

“I used Dulux ‘sweet pink’ and Johnstone’s ‘soft linen’ for painted areas.

“The roof is Dolls’ House Emporium large grey roof tile sheet. Items of furniture are my own private collection and some recently purchased from the Dolls’ House Emporium such as the trundle bed, window seat, gas stove and sink unit.

“I decided to try and get it done in 24 hours – phew!”

She adds that the original cottage is no longer painted pink, and it unfortunately has a high fence built to the front so it’s no longer very visible.

At least it’s preserved for posterity – albeit with some new touches – in April’s Creative Competition entry.

There were over 50 entries this year! See more on this blog very soon.
