Historic dolls’ house gets conservation makeover

November 21st, 2011

The Harris Museum and Art Gallery in Preston, Lancashire, is home to a 140 year old dolls’ house which has recently undergone intense conservation work to restore it to its former glory.

Each miniature piece in the Pedder Dolls’ House has been individually polished – and cracks in the archaic walls have been repaired by specialist staff working over three days.

Conservation work is normally a back-of-house activity in the museum but, as featured in the Lancashire Evening Post, on this occasion the public were invited to take a look and over 300 people took up the opportunity.

The renovated house is set to take pride of place in a new history gallery which is to open in the Museum in June 2012.
