10-year-old girl donates dolls’ house to hospital

December 23rd, 2011

Here’s a tale to warm the cockles close to Christmas…

A story in the Sunderland Echo highlighted the generosity of a 10-year-old who donated a dolls’ house to the children’s ward of her local hospital.

The newspaper told how Emily West was recently a patient on the Treetops Ward at the University Hospital of Durham after suffering a bad injury when impaled on the handlebars of her own bike.

It’s an amazing story, both of what happened to her in the first place and how she’s recovered.

The gift of a dolls’ house for children to play with was her way of saying thank you to the staff who looked after her.

Angela Traynor, who works on the ward, said: “We were all amazed at Emily because she was so brave and never even cried…  It’s really lovely to see her so well so quickly.”

Colleague Tracey Wintrip added: “The children will love the dolls’ house. It’s in such good condition and full of furniture and fittings, even a washing machine.”
