Dolls’ Hospital forced to close

February 22nd, 2012

Some sad news from the Irish Independent concerns the closure of Dublin’s Dolls’ Hospital and Teddy Bears Clinic, a shop which has been tending to the needs of dolls and teddies for more than 30 years.

Talking about the special appeal which the Dolls’ Hospital had for people, co-owner Chris Nolan said:

“Customers turn into friends. It’s not like an ordinary shop, it’s more individual, especially when we are repairing teddy bears and dolls that hold a lot of sentiment for people.”

It’s a sentiment echoed by Lesley Condren, a regular visitor to the Dolls’ Hospital over the last two decades:

“This place is history itself. There’s nothing else like it. It’s a fabulous place and I’ll be sad to see it go.”

Unfortunately, the hard economic realities of rising overheads and commercial rates have forced Chris and his wife Melissa to close the Hospital’s doors and migrate to the internet, although they still hope one day to return.

We wish them well.
