A dolls’ house helps to bring the past to life

May 27th, 2012

A new museum dedicated to the history of life in the London Borough of Havering features among its display of local history a beautiful dolls’ house dating from the beginning of the 20th century.

The Playtime Villa dolls’ house which is on loan from the Museum of London has pride of place among the museum’s collection of historical artefacts, ranging from Anglo Saxon weapons and medieval coins right through to old photographs and dresses and other items of fashion from past ages.

The dolls’ house itself is a replica of a family’s newly built home in the local Upminster Hall Estate in 1908 and, as a representation of domestic life at that time, it is important today in helping to bringing the past to life.
