Leonardslee Gardens and other Miniature Delights!

Monday, June 30th, 2008

I was lucky enough to visit the Leonardslee Gardens last year and I must say that it is a very impressive display of miniature talent! It really is a beautifully crafted exhibition with stunning attention to detail.

For those of you who don’t know, Leonardslee Gardens houses one of the worlds’ largest exhibitions and includes a 140 foot display frontage and a country estate! And like all The Dolls House Emporium products, it is produced in 1:12 scale, meaning that every inch represents 12 inches in real life. What a lot of work!

If you’re a member of our forum you’ll be able to access the pictures taken by one of our forum members on her recent trip, surely inspiration for us all.

For other dolls house and miniature outings, try visiting the following places:

  • Sudbury Hall and the Museum of Childhood– watch out for Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle’s! www.nationaltrust.org.uk
  • Windsor Castle – the home of the world famous Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House, a treasure trove of ideas and designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens. www.royal.gov.uk
  • Houghton Hall – our very own home from home! With the World in Miniature Museum www.dollshouse.com

We’ll see you there!

Did you know …?

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

We know that a lot of our customers have been with us a long time and remember our humble beginnings in a basement in Derbyshire but did you know that we used the have ‘Open Days’? As we didn’t have a shop premises, customers were invited to come and have a look at the dolls’ houses and accessories in special open days a couple of times a year. Luckily this didn’t last long and we soon had a shop and showroom at the site in Park Hall. Now you can come and visit us at either of our two shops in Ripley and at Houghton Hall in Carlisle and have all your miniature cravings catered for in one go.

Do you have any early memories of The Dolls House Emporium? Perhaps you came along to one of those early open days, tell us about your earliest experiences of dolls houses and accessories and how you came to know about us, we’d love to hear your stories!
