Advanced Warning!

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

Tomorrow morning from 10am for approximately 2 hours, the website will be closed for maintenance. We are moving the hosting of the website to a new server. What this means is that the website should work slightly quicker for you all and it will allow the web team to make some needed upgrades and improvements on the cogs and levers that allow the website to work. We also hope that it will allow them to add more sparkle and functionality in the future.

Whilst the website is down, why not join us on facebook, twitter and even on our very own forum to talk about this great hobby!

You can still order your favourite bits and pieces, just give us a call;

Social Media. Two not very big words which mean a whole world of interest on the internet. Some of you will know that The Dolls House Emporium now has a fan page on Facebook and that we also ‘tweet’ a couple of times a day on Twitter.  Both these sites allow us to converse with you, our customer, in a way we haven’t been able to before. Rather than us (and most other retailers) in the past saying ‘Here’s what we’ve got, come and buy it’, you are now in a position to say ‘Actually can you do it like this, deliver it on Friday and what if it doesn’t fit after all?’ and we can react accordingly.

This is awesome.

The possibilities for these mediums to allow a better relationship between all customers and all companies are unprecedented. Eventually I believe it will lead to much greater consumer power and for the good companies out there, that won’t be a problem.

It’s going to be a very interesting journey along the way, I am sure it will be fraught with danger and excitement. So become a fan and/or a follower, engage with us, talk to us, we’re listening! I hope many more of you will join us!

Haunted House to Mini Modern

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

There are so many people blogging about dolls’ houses and miniatures right now we find it a bit hard to keep up sometimes.

Whilst poking round Twitter yesterday we came across this lady and then across her blog about creating a haunted dolls’ house. It looks like Carmen is creating something really special here and we can’t wait to see more progress, there’s heaps of photos too!

One of our favourite blogs is Mini Modern, based over in the USA, she produces some of the best modern room sets we’ve seen. She also happens to like Ocean Drive and the Malibu Beach House so there is a bit of reciprocal interest. After a break whilst she moved into a new ‘real’ house, it would seem she’s back and showing off her extremely large collection, albeit, in totes packed neatly away. It’s still amazing to see just how much she’s been able to get her hands on. Welcome back!

And we’ve also enjoyed Biby’s blog recently too. Don’t worry if you can’t read Portuguese, just click on the Union Jack on the top right and you’ll get the site translated into readable English. Biby has possibly hundreds of links to additional sites in a variety of languages and her blog contains lots of pictures and the odd video too.

Have you spotted some that we haven’t mentioned? Do let us know and remember that you can have your very own blog in our collectors’ blogs too, just email us on blog@dollshouse.com and we’ll get you set up as soon as we can.

Facebook, Twitter and Even YouTube

Friday, May 15th, 2009

Yes, we’ve done it, we’ve joined the new millennium and taken a step into the world of Facebook and Twitter. We’ve been on YouTube for quite sometime,  but we’ve been a bit nervous of Facebook and Twitter, all this new-fangled technology can be a bit daunting when you like solid things made from wood, but we’ve taken a deep breath and dived in at the deep end with a Facebook page and Twitter profile.

So, if you would like to become a fan on Facebook, just search for ‘Dolls House Emporium  and there we’ll be. If you’d like to hear us ‘tweet’ use the search facility on Twitter with the term ‘Dolls House Emporium’ to find us. We’d be delighted to share our journey with you into this social adventure!
