Craft challenge is under way

Saturday, October 15th, 2011

We recently came across an interesting article on the Etsy website.

If you’ve not come across it before, Etsy is an e-version of a crafts fair where people sell handmade and vintage items, as well as arts and craft supplies.

The article is a reference to a dolls’ house challenge ‘I’m a Giant!’ which is being organised by US-based interior designer Emily Henderson and is open to everyone to join in.

As Emily explains: “The challenge is to decorate a dollhouse. You can buy one or make something that resembles a miniature space. It doesn’t have to be a ‘house,’ per se; it could be a loft or an industrial space. I’m trying to convince my boxing trainer to do a mini boxing gym. It can be conceptual or literal.  Whatever you want.

“You can spend as much or little time and money as you want. It doesn’t have to last for generations, and certainly nobody is actually going to live in it. It’s a chance to create a mini fantasy world of your own. It’s more of a piece of art or a diorama in a way than an actual ‘dollhouse.’”

If you are interested in getting involved or just curious to see the results, then take a look at Emily Henderson’s blog.

Your Emporium Needs YOU!

Thursday, October 13th, 2011

What would you like to tell us if you got the chance? We’re looking for a small group of customers who can come along and spend the day with us at Dolls House Head Quarters in Ripley, Derbyshire, to help shape how we communicate with you all in the future. We would need you to be available for a full day during the week and be willing to chat and share information with us.  If that sounds like something you’d be interested in, then please contact patrick.astill@dollshouse.co.uk with your customer number and contact telephone number, once we have the details figured out we will be in touch. Of course there would also be the opportunity to visit the shop and who knows maybe a little treat in store too!

Alternatively, if you’d like to help us out, but feel you can’t spare a whole day to visit us at Ripley, we’re also looking for people willing to chat to us on the phone for 1/2 an hour or so about your dolls’ house hobby, how it fits in with your lifestyle and a few more general topics. These are all designed to help us shape the future of our interactions with you all and we would be most grateful for just 20 minutes of your time. If this is something you are interested in, then please contact us on sales@dollshouse.co.uk  with the subject marked as ‘Customer Chat’ and including your customer number and a contact telephone number and if you have a preference on time of day to call that would be useful too. We regret that we can only make these calls during the week, i.e. Monday to Friday, 9-5 but we will do our best to accommodate your request.

It’s good to talk!
