Almost finished …

Mouse's African View - Posted on August 25th, 2010 by Mouse

… As far as a dolls’  house is ever finished at all :-)
Long time since my last post but keeping the thread at the forum up-to-date is just so much easier…

My couple got names: Alexandrine Tinné & Thomas Baines (and if you like to find out why these, have a look at Wikipedia ;-) )
299_ A nice pair

The house is filling up with nick-nacks and is looking more lived-in with every little piece.

For all pics please go to (there’ll be always the latest):

Creative Competition 2008 - Posted on June 28th, 2010 by Lauren Carroll

Hi everyone. My name is Lauren. I am fairly new to dolls  houses and I’m still trying to learn. I’ll just tell you a bit about myself.

I’m 19, I live in England and I work as a nursery nurse.

I only own one dollhouse so far (even though I’d love them all !!). It is the Toll House which my boyfriend bought for me last year. Progress on it has been slow as – like I said – I’m still learning so there have been more than a few mistakes so far.

I’ve decorated it (outside and in) but I still need to add lots more to that yet. I’ve also started making a few things for inside it: a small shelving unit, some bottles and some food. I’ve bought a few things too so its starting to look quite nice. I’m hoping to turn it into a friendly witches house but it still has a looooooong way to come yet.

I’ll be posting some pictures of it so far very soon when I get a new camera (I managed to drop my old one in a mop bucket :-D ) I hope you’ll like it because I love it and I’m looking forward to getting lots of tips and help because trust me, I need it!

Welcome to the Curiosity Shop

Jess Rutter - Posted on June 16th, 2010 by Jess Rutter

So the fun begins!

I fell in love with this little property when I saw it on Ebay. The seller has a range of very good value buildings but it was this one I simply loved! The detail on the staircase and the fact he engraves your shop name for free is brilliant!

It arrived after about a week (the seller does state 5-10 working days) and it’s currently on my bedroom floor in a huge box, un-opened. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m desperate and excited to rip it open and get to work but bearing in mind my appeal to my high school to drop Woodwork for my GCSE’s, DIY is certainly not my strong point.

So, I’m enlisting the help of my fifteen year old little brother who probably knows a thing or two more than me about this kind of thing. Unlike my first house (Wentworth Court) which appeared lovingly built and painted one Christmas Day, I am not going to rush the interior decoration at all. I ordered a book from Amazon yesterday about Edwardian Interiors (my chosen era for the shop) which will hopefully help me and encourage me to take my time to get it perfect!

I will keep you posted on my progress!

Basement or first floor?

Mouse's African View - Posted on June 13th, 2010 by Mouse
It’s originally the Lake View Basement but for my African View it’s the first floor ( and don’t let’s go into the difference between English and American )

Today started with drilling the holes and “scratching” new dents for the wires.
And then the fun began:
1. the hallway floor: a bamboo place mat from a nick-nack-shop – for only 1,50€
2. the living room floor: my first ever try with veneer, Reading a little bit about how-to-do it at one of my magazines I had an idea. Spreading the wood glue and press the veneer evenly to the bottom. (The board for next floor comes in handy for that ) After drying for a looong time just cutting the edges. Painting

Mouse's African View - Posted on June 12th, 2010 by Mouse
After painting everything with a clear lasur-paint it was now again everything with white paint as an undercoat for either another paint or wallpapering.

And I’m painting and painting and painting… Read the rest of this entry »
