Craft challenge is under way
Saturday, October 15th, 2011We recently came across an interesting article on the Etsy website.
If you’ve not come across it before, Etsy is an e-version of a crafts fair where people sell handmade and vintage items, as well as arts and craft supplies.
The article is a reference to a dolls’ house challenge ‘I’m a Giant!’ which is being organised by US-based interior designer Emily Henderson and is open to everyone to join in.
As Emily explains: “The challenge is to decorate a dollhouse. You can buy one or make something that resembles a miniature space. It doesn’t have to be a ‘house,’ per se; it could be a loft or an industrial space. I’m trying to convince my boxing trainer to do a mini boxing gym. It can be conceptual or literal. Whatever you want.
“You can spend as much or little time and money as you want. It doesn’t have to last for generations, and certainly nobody is actually going to live in it. It’s a chance to create a mini fantasy world of your own. It’s more of a piece of art or a diorama in a way than an actual ‘dollhouse.’”
If you are interested in getting involved or just curious to see the results, then take a look at Emily Henderson’s blog.

Will dolls’ house claim hall of fame accolade?
Saturday, October 8th, 2011The dolls’ house is one of 12 finalists battling it out for two additional places in the National Toy Hall of Fame in Rochester, New York.
Since its creation in 1998, the National Toy Hall of Fame has inducted 46 iconic childhood toys and games, ranging from good old-fashioned marbles to the teddy bear, roller skates and Monopoly.
This year there are 12 finalists including our own favourite, the dolls’ house.
The opposition is a strong line up which includes the likes of Twister, Rubik’s Cube and the pogo stick but there’s no doubt about which one would get our vote.
We’ll let you know if the dolls’ house triumphs when the results are announced next month.
